Meet the Team & Collaborators
Gidget Films Australia, founded by Di Seels, is a collective of scientists, academics, educators, researchers, young scriptwriters, and a youth theatre director - all based on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of Queensland. What unites us is a passion for film, a love of great storytelling, and a commitment to empowering children’s food literacy.
Our diverse and talented team works collaboratively across every stage of production: storyboarding, episode creation, character development, plot design, and weaving in social-emotional learning. Much of our creative spark comes from our own childhoods - time spent close to nature, eating wholesome food, and being inspired by the landscapes and food culture of the Sunshine Coast.
It’s this connection to place, play, and purpose that shapes the heart of our storytelling, blending humour, adventure, and meaningful learning for children everywhere.
Di Seels
Founder & Creative Director — Gidget Films Australia
As Founder and Creative Director of Gidget Films Australia, Di Seels brings together a lifetime of lived experience, scientific inquiry, and creative storytelling. Her work is not simply a career path — it is an evolution shaped by land, learning, and a deep commitment to children’s wellbeing.
Born and raised on her family farm, Di grew up immersed in true paddock-to-plate living. Mornings spent feeding animals, collecting eggs, tending baby chicks and calves, and watching food grow from the soil shaped not only her childhood, but her values. Those early experiences became the quiet foundation of her work — grounding everything she creates in authenticity, connection, and respect for the land.
With more than two decades working in medical science and clinical embryology — both nationally and internationally — Di developed a deep understanding of health and wellbeing at a cellular level. Her transition into university lecturing and specialist outdoor education revealed something equally powerful: the transformative impact of hands-on, nature-based learning on children’s wellbeing.
In 2020, she founded the Slow Food Noosa – Slow Food Snail Kids Program, now delivered across Queensland schools and aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Her innovative approach to children’s food literacy has been internationally recognised, including invitations to present at the Slow Food International Terra Madre Conferences in Turin, Italy (2022 and 2024), where she showcased her evidence-informed and heart-led approach to education.
Di is currently completing her HDR Master of Science, researching food literacy among primary school children. Her academic work strengthens and informs her creative practice — ensuring that her storytelling is both heartfelt and grounded in research.

Today, Di brings her scientific mind, educator’s heart, and creative spirit together as a film producer and founder of Gidget Films Australia. Her latest project, My Friend Bazza, merges her expertise in children’s learning with her mission to nurture food literacy and inspire a more connected generation through storytelling, humour, and wonder.
At her core, Di is guided by a simple purpose:
to help children thrive — in their health, their connection to the earth, and their understanding of the world around them.
